Colorado River Citizens Forum, January 24, 2024

The USIBWC Colorado River Citizens Forum Board held a public meeting on Jan 24, 2024, at the Imperial County Board Chambers, 940 West Main Street, Suite 211 El Centro, Calif.
Jeremy Brooks, program manager of the Salton Sea Program, gave an update on the declining Salton Sea surface water levels and how this was exposing the lakebed, contributing to water and air quality challenges that impact human health and wildlife.
USIBWC Civil Engineer Jose Vela presented on the implementation status of Minute 323-related projects.
Wayne Belzer, an Environmental Engineer with the USIBWC, gave a description of the binational water quality study proposed by the International Boundary and Water Commission, United States and Mexico (IBWC) for the New River. IBWC is working with agencies from Calexico-Mexicali and intends to initiate the study this year.
